StinkyRay Wedding Blog

What is the most happy and memorable moment in a person's life? I think it is courtship, marriage and birth of a baby. Of course there are other moments to rejoice but I really believe the above list is probably the top 3. Therefore I made a commitment to share the joy with my special friends, and extended family members. One of those contribution that I can humbly make is to help them capture the best moment for eternity.

I thought the plain and subtle textured background would look great and I requested the Brothers to make a pose for me. These 4 chaps were really fun to be with and they were spontaneous and always ready to participate. Guys, thanks for the participation and the fun. Commentary: It is the BIG day and I'm happy to be part of this memorable event. The whole cycle of this marriage process thingy took more than 2 years. From ROM, to GTL and then finally the Big Day. I'm indeed honored to walk with Thiam Hwei and Janette in this journey. Capturing their sweet moment for eternity. All said, you can see that we were early and eagerly waiting for the gate crashing moment. Oh, Max (the man on the left) thanks for the car ride too!

Canon EOS 5DMk2 + EF70-200mm f/4 L IS. 200mm ISO400 f/5.6 1/200s. Flash fired. I know Thiam Hwei (my brother in law) for a long time (since 1993?). There was this boy to man transformation (from what I see) from a quiet introvert to a playful and demanding negotiator. With this scene of him playfully shouting across with his ‘brothers’, I know that the gate crashing thingy will be a piece of cake for them. Good luck to you, SISTERS. BTW, there should be four people in this picture; 1 Bridegroom and 3 brothers. So where is the missing brother? Well, I deliberately cropped it off because odd number has more impact (it adds dynamics into the image) than even number and three person in the image looks perfect to me for this action shot!

"Sending Off"
Canon EOS 5DMK2 + EF70-200mm f/4 L IS USM. 106mm A=f/5.6 t=1/125s @ ISO800. Flash fired. Thiam Hwei is one lucky chap. There are 3 camera men and 6 cameras ready to capture the event. I'm not the official camera man and had to shoot along side with 2 more freelance photog (from Bridal Concept). I'm 'foc' but the freelancer is not free so I make sure I do not interfere with the official photog by staying some distance away. That explains why I chose to use the longer lens. Maybe it is also good karma, I got to learn a few tips from Kit (the main photog) on that busy day. What really saves the day for me is I lugged 2 huge camera bodies; each with different focal length (17-40mm and 70-200mm) and that gives me alot of flexibility in the composition. The fast paced mode of wedding photography is very much journalistic style and you need to change the focal length to get different perspective and special effect (not to mention the choice of inclusion and isolation aka "bokeh"). About the picture of "Sending Off"? Nothing much to say, Janette is one happy bride as you can see here and congrats to the lovely couple. Update: Hey, more is not merrier. I'd seen the work of those 2 photog. Not to standard, many blur shots and not edited or filtered. This is not acceptable in my opinion.
